Geeks Rule the World....

My sister Tracy sent this shirt to Lauren today........."I Love Nerds."  You can find the cute Paul Frank stuff here at Target (Genius!  It goes along with our family saying to "Geeks Rule the World!"  AND, the giraffe is wearing glasses!  Too cute : )
More self-portraits from Lauren....I love how the peak in the ceiling makes her look like she's wearing a witch hat!

And she took a pic of brother-bro...(look Ma, no stinka!

Hilarious!  I did not teach her this!  hahahha  Another self-portrait...
HAPPY HAUNTING THIS WEEKEND!  The family that CREEPS together, stays together!!!!!!

No "Scary" Costumes...

Lauren attends a Lutheran pre-school so the memo regarding costumes for "Fall Fest" (can't call it what it is....um, yeah....Halloween?  No, that is the work of the Devil!) said "children can wear costumes, just not "scary" costumes.  Well, thanks to my BF Bern, we don't do non-scary Halloween in this house!  So figuring out what to wear today (without spending money on another costume) was tricky.  You never know that the red-head will "agree" to wear!

Please note my son who is "Soothie Obsessed."  One in the mouth, one in the hand.  Not sure when we can get rid of this habit.  My family now refers to binkys as "Stinkas" which is a take on "Stinky Binky."  I tell myself it's okay because he isn't TWO yet!  And, Evan proudly went over to the wall and said "cheese" when he saw I was taking Lauren's pic!
So this is our cute, but jerry-rigged "cat costume"...She refused to wear any princess garb, or her Doctor outfit.  She said "But Mom, we do scary Halloween and I don't want to be cute."   I gotta love a kid who sticks to her guns!   I also explained the school thing to her and told her the girls would most definately be wearing princess dresses.
Not bad, cuteness factor pretty high with the 80s side-pony which was all her idea!
Now, wait until you see our "Scary" costumes for Halloween on Sunday!  "EVANSTEIN" and "The BRIDE OF".....(or Sissy of technically!) Very cool and I'm the geeky, proud mom maker of them!  It was so fun......I would guess $25 for both kids with a trip to Goodwill, Wal-Mart and the Dollar Store.

We got black tights with glow in the dark stars on them for her "real" costume and she seriously said "Mom, don't you think these are too cutesy?"

Cilantro Lime Chimichurri with Avocado....

To get the party started, make this recipe:  cilantro-lime-chimichurri-with-avocado  (of course from Pioneer Woman!  But my BFF Kelly led me to this goodness!)  I roasted the tomatillos, garlic, green onion and jalpeno before putting it in the food processor.......I highly suggest doing this!  It is awesome....especially if you get it really charred and black.  It completely adds to the flavor.  You will see the green goodness below and how I took a "dip" and turned it into an appetizer...

 I added some chicken....

and used pre-made fillo shells...they are the best and so easy!  You can put anything in these cups!
I put the "dip" on the bottom and added a little chiken and one tomato chunk....
I also found these cocktail flatbreads and did the same thing with them...
The dip is delcious by itself with chips too if that's the kind of thing you are looking for.  But beware....somebody is gonna have to pry it out of your hand to get you to stop.  Kelly uses this "dip" as a condiment on sandwiches and admitted to making excuses to just slather this on anything and everything!

Signs of the Season....

The Sign of Good Girls Weekend....

Wine (red and white), Coors Light, Starbucks, Alka Seltzer, Iced Tea, Corona.....Yep.  I'd say it was a success!!!  Thank you Lake Geneva!
And, if you happen to be in LG, check out the public walk around the lake front.  Carolyn Gable has a mansion called "Expect a Miracle" mansion and painted fence filled with lovely inspirational sayings and a bell to ring "for a miracle" and a guest book to sign.  Check out:  The Miracle Path.  If I could upload more than one stinkin' photo I could show you more!

Any of my fellow blog spotters, are you having issues and what are you doing to get around it???

Just to get back in the game....

Hello friends!  I have been in yet another blogger slump and now, NOW, NOW, now when I am ready to get back in the game I realize that blogspot has changed the way you can upload photos to the blog.  Grrrrrrrrr.  Not happy!  So, I've just popped in to say I'm still alive and I'm kind of obsessed with posting a photo WITH some writing.  Now, I've got to figure out a way around this photo thing.  I've also really enjoyed documenting something I'm doing by a series of several photos.

I've discussed these bars before and if you haven't made them........you will love them!  salted-toffee-chocolate-graham-cracker-squares  I've made them two times....both times for Girl's Weekend Get-a-way and they have not failed!  Super easy........graham crackers, almonds, toffee chips, chocolate chips and sea salt!  The drizzle is butter and sugar.

Also, I beg you to read this fabulous post from one of my favorite blogs Pink of Perfection entitled "There is Enough...."  Super inspiring!
Also, check out Surrender Dorothy blog about changing the conversation about beauty.  Fantastic!

What has been inspiring you lately?

Crafty Joe strikes again....

Okay, so I admit.  I am a Scrabble fan. When my family gets together we drink and play Scrabble.  I know, by now you are you adding up all the things that make me geeky and are wondering why you read my posts....However, a little bit of geek is said to be endearing.......(I just made that up).

Here is my latest craftin' it up project. I will show you the finished project when I'm done, as some words got changed up a bit.  I got a cool shadow box frame on sale at JoAnn Fabrics and am going to frame this and scatter all the left over tiles in the frame and cover the back with pages from the dictionary.

As you can see all words originate from ANDERSON and include all our names.  You can check out some other fine Scrabble Art here.  Remember, Geeks rule the world!  hahaha

Egg-in-a-Hole....

Ahhhhh, the 'ol "Egg-in-a-Hole"....
Classic comfort food and a go-to meal when your child is hungry
and you'd like to stick a needle in your eye instead of prepare food.
 Kickin' it Old School....
Please note the world famous (been in my family for generations and handed
down to me by my Mom when I had kids.....) Tupperware cookie cutter!!!
 Perfect circle!
And remember to toast up the 'lil cut out circle....
My sister referred to that as a "toastie."  (adorable!)

There you have it!
Does your family have a different name for these?
I've heard lots of different ones.

ADORE III

I gotta get a grip on my "ADORE" posts because clearly I adore far too many things, and secondly, I don't know Roman numerals.  Never learned them.  Never will.  So all those Super Bowls...........nope.......don't know which one we are really on.  And, since I've gotten this far in life without the use of Roman numerals.....I think I'm good.  I think I'm okay!

I got this little mushroom stained glass lovely at Julie's-Upscale-Resale-of-Door-County in Sister Bay, WI.  Who doesn't love a little throw back to the 70s with a mushroom motif?  I cannot get enough of stained glass.  LOVE (okay "adore") this store.  The girls are quirky and cool and funny and have a spirit that will keep you coming back to explore the goodies.  AND, they are known to be discussing cocktail hour at any given time....wine or martinis and rumor has it they have wine samplings out in the store on occasion!  Fantastic!

I especially love the $1 table....And apparently tomorrow I need to take pics of my $1 table "find" and my other fantastic finds from Julie's!  So that will be tomorrow's assignment.....

Until then, happy bargain hunting from one of the best!
